    TD5 Alternator Charge Rate

Have been having some charge issues for some time.
Finally got my older nanocom working properly again this morning.
Nanocom showing Battery Voltage Charge Rate between 12.5 - 13.7 up and down and all over the place.
Volt meter shows a consistent voltage of around 13.7.
My question is shouldnt it be charging at 14 plus volts on the Nannocom?
If so is it likely needing a new regulator?

I have an OBD2 readout, an added volt gauge and the brake controller , and they all read different.
yes, it should hover around 14,,,

now the stuff you already know--
make sure all the earths to the engine are clean, make sure the two power connectors into the fuse boxes are tight( I got .3 of a volt by doing this-- )

Mine is always some where above 14 v after the first start of the day and after a constant run it will drop back down in the 13`s somewhere

So maybe 13.6 - 13.7 is OK? It is a bit over the place on the Nanocom down as low as 12.5, but flicks around a lot.

For me that 13.7 seems low all the way, mine goes above 14.3 after cold start even if i switch on all the hard consumers and it drops rarely to 13.8 after a long run when the battery got fully charged but it's stabile... though not nanocom reading as i have a voltmeter fitted to the binnacle

max charge voltage also depends on battery condition as the alternator will vary the output depending on the voltage of the battery. Otherwise you will boil a battery jamming 14v into a dud 8v battery.

only reliable way to measure voltage is using a multi meter on the battery itself.

Yeah I thinks so too, not entirely confident with the Nanocom reading, Nanocom has had intermittent faults for 2 years now.
Having said that too the alternator and reg are original so now 16 years old. A reg kit would maybe be a prudent $50 for preventative maintenance when I get time.
