rewiring dual horns
As my rotary coupler was broken ( horn and cruise control wiring to
centre of steering wheel) finally found a LR dealer that had one, but
the price was just short of $700:00, so need some info on how to
rewire the dual horns to a manual switch.
The fitted cruise control was for the original v8, and is not compatible
with the td5 diesel.

can you post a picture of the broken bit so i can see what the problem is exactly....
im a bit unsure as to what it is exactly you are referring to.....
it may be something that can be repaired quite easily.....

Its a set of flat wires like an internal computer wire to the HD, which is wound around the steering column loosely a number of times, to transmit the signals from the horn cruise control etc. Give me a brass rubbing ring anytime.
I have seen in a Pom mag that if it is broken near the end you can cut off the wires and refit them into the plug. Maybe a longshot.

Thanks for the replies, but I cannot find any way to open it up
with out completly wrecking it, by lifting the edge of the revolving
centre piece I can see the top edges of tape, the wreckers are
asking $250 for a used one with no guarantee, so its either a new
one or rewire the horns to a manual switch and spend the money on
a set of rock sliders.

Horns.
Howdy: If you haven't already figured you need a RAVE CD, now is the time. I was looking at the wiring diagramme for a MY95 Disco, since I'm in the process of removing my Airbag and associated bits. According to the RAVE, all thats required is to ground the PO (Purple with orange stripe) wire. That trips the relay and the horns activate. The diagramme also mentions the ordinary steering wheel setup which is a slip ring : Find an early Disco and buy the standard steering wheel with the slip ring module. Or, unplug the coupler, take a splice off the PO wire and install a simple push button on the dash that leads to ground.

Thanks for your reply, have a Rave cd for my November 94 update
disco and a series 2 Rave cd for the td5 under the bonnet, and yes I found the wiring you describe when first checking the plug to see if power was going to the rotary coupler, and do have the horns connected to a manual switch but not from that wire, did consider fitting a stalk from a defender as they have a horn button on the end ? have removed the rotary coupler, thanks for the info, only have to get around to fixing the gauge from the fuel tank ( td5 pump fitted into my v8 petrol tank).
