Other than the O2 sensor, I can't work out what else would affect only Bank A.
MAF would surely affect both banks.
if it is bank A only, then maybe the injectors are leaking fuel on Bank A ???

Maybe. But how do I check without pulling them out?
I think I need to pull the plugs. I just haven't had the time to do so yet.
Keep the ideas coming though, much appreciated.

You could get a borescope and have a look in the cylinders.
If it is one or more cylinders there should be a difference to the other ones.

You could pull the plugs and see if any are different, even though you have only traveled a couple of 1000 kms, it might show something, wet? discoloured more than others.

    Fault Code is:
    "P0172=mixture adaption factor FRA
    bank 1 drive cycle C
    occurred 1 times
    signal too high
    fault is currently present
    fault determined as intermittent
    fault causes the MIL lamp
    activation"

I can't get it to clear, but hoping I can when I do an adaptive reset.

    See pics of Nanocom readings.

The "O2 SENS. BANK A" doesn't change. This will be due to carbon deposit. It may come good with a clean.

Well done Mario, I'm pretty sure the adaptive reset has solved the issue but only time will tell. As soon as I hit the button there was a distinct change in the motor idle, the problematic O2 sensor came to life and both banks are running about the same fuel trim figures.
I could kick myself for not trying it earlier but this has been a good learning experience for me with the Nanocom and it's functionality.
Now on to the next job.......door latches.

To close out this thread I thought I should give an update.

The O2 sensor replacement followed by the adaptive reset did in fact solve my economy and soot problem. My weekend trip returned about 14l/100km, compared with 22l/100km before the adaptive reset (even with the new O2 sensor installed). Both trips of were highway drives.

Note that this would have been extremely difficult to diagnose and repair without a Nanocom or such like, or without the help of the good people here at AULRO.

After all the work I have done recently the D2 drives like a dream. For now at least.
