    D2 V8 130amp alternator

    Hi all,
Just a quick one, can the D2 V8 130amp alternator be rebuilt easily. Battery light has started coming on, on sons D2 and not charging or do I need to buy a new alternator?
    Cheers

Usually it's something as simple as the regulator, could possibly be something else, but I'm not an expert on the topic, only relating info from past experiences.

Pretty easy fix, although I've never pulled a D2 V8 alternator to say for sure.

If I understand the way they usually stop working too .. not only does the charge light come on, but the tacho usually stops working as well.
I'm pretty sure they have a fuse linked into the charge system .. can't remember which one, but may pay to check that too.

Replaced with a second hand one and all good so far, but if they can be rebuilt will look at doing so for a spare

If you pull the brush set and check if the brushes are stuck in their holders. Carbon build up on old alternators can jam them in. I cleaned mine and got another 20,000 kms out of them., but the brushes were short,

Does anyone know the part numbers for the regulator and brushes? off hand.
Got a good second hand one for now but will rebuild the original as a spare.

Take the old ones down to Ashdown and Ingram and they should be able to help you.'

The genuine brush kit is BOSCH 1 127 014 028. Not sure of the regulator (which includes brushes) but the same style of alternator is fitted to zillions of Euro models from that era.

    Alternator brushes, D2 V8
