Cracked head or Injector/ O rings / Washers

You can check them yourself. Remove rocker cover clean around all the injector tops and down around the base of the solenoid body etc and cycle the bleed function with the key. If the ARE leaking through the injector body or up through the o ring then a steady welling up of diesel should be visible. There are other possibilities that are there is an actual crack in the injector gallery etc which basically means new head... if the lower seals and the o rings have failed at the same time you WILL have poor starting and intermittent hydraulic lock.

JC - thanks for that. Will give that a try and see what it brings.
There is a noticiable diesel smell when i take the oil filler cap off - hope that is a good sign that it is just the seals.
In my oroginal post - I stated that I had the poor starting and that was caused by failed copper washers. This time starts fine.

Removed the rocker cover and did as you suggested.
There appears to be a leak around the number 3 injector - pretty suttle but there defiantly is a small leak there. Did not notice any other weaps on any of the other injectors.

Is it welling up from the injector housing or around where it goes into the head?

Now you ask that I am not too sure.
I thought it was were it went into the head.
I cleaned out all of the galleys around the injectors, cycled the fuel pump and would check - found diesel in the galleys.

What is the life expectancy of the TD5 injectors?
My diesel mechanic figures due to the milage (370K) I have that it would be worth putting in new injectors.
Are rebuilt injectors worth it or should I go with new if I go down this path?

Unless there is a problem leave them alone they were from my understanding designed to last 800000 ks
There are very few people who can actually recondition them properly even in the UK

This is what I have learned and it isn't all conclusive some may have better information

Possibility is also there is a crack at the top of the injector bore.

I am afraid of that!
It is set to go to the mechanic next week. Will report back what they find.

The most difficult part of the job would be removing them ftom the head if they are a bit stuck I made up a small simple slide hammer when I did mine but I've heard of some on here who simply use a couple of levers such as screw drivers.
Handle with care, keep everything ultra clean & ensure that the 'o' rings are fitted in the correct groove.
