Tubeless tyre repairs - cleaning solvent

Anyone here do proper patch or mushroom plug repairs to tubeless tyres? What solvent do you use to clean the inside of the tyre?
I know you can get specialised cleaning solvents from tyre repair suppliers, but is there something more readily available like paint thinners or shellite that will work?

Never bothered with solvent. I just rough up the surface with a small angle grinder and a flap wheel. Never had one fail yet.

Awesome. Was wondering how critical the solvent was.
If its not then I won't bother

Having spent a year making the 'specialized stuff".
It's uncured rubber mixed with Benzene so the solvent would be Benzene or something with a similar chemical structure like toluene or Xylene or any of the ---ene's
Not that I'd want to play with any of the stuff.
But as said previously just abrading the surface would work just as well.

    Cheers Glen

    Good info - thanks.
Agree about avoiding those ones. I had regular contact with too many "good" solvents in a previous life in aircraft maintenance.

Something my dad use to do was after roughing up said surface prior to putting the patch on he would spread a bit of the rubber cement over the area then scrape it off with a knife effectively cleaning the surface, then he would reapply the glue and then the patch.

Never used solvents either. Just be a bit careful using angle grinder etc. Don't cut the cords in the tyre
