    Thanks for all the "real-world" help. I think I'll go with them.

    Has anyone got a second hand pair or where would be the best (cheapest) place to get them?

    If you visit them take your earplugs , as on the corner of Station St and Princes Hwy Sydenham, they are the LAST building on the flight path to the main runway at Kingsford Smith. At 50 movements and hour you can only have sporadic conversation.
