Doing a body lift on a Defender is a major operation. Its not just a matter of putting longer bolts and spacers underneath like most 4WD's. Many of the major load bolts run horizontally unlike the the more common vertical arrangement, particularly at the rear and the firewall. Get handy with fabricating and welding if you do, and best wishes with it though!

Will you be able to keep the aircon with the new turbo.? Usually there are space issues.

    G'day Rod,
The vehicle has no A/C so not an issue at present.
Maybe using a defender A/C will get around that issue. Haven't thought about it.

    Thanks,
    David.

When KLR do a turbo conversion, they usually advise fitting the Defender air con 'cos the turbo is very close to the plastic heater/aircon casing under the bonnet.

Would be very interested in a photo of the cast flat input from turbo to inlet.

    Have sent PM
I think the car has gone back to its owner in the Newcastle area - at least the car had Newcastle LR Club stickers on it.

    PM not received.

    Hi David,

IIRC the 3.9 has that huge air filter that run directly behind the engine and before the firewall. Why not get rid of that and fit something smaller and easier.

I'm guessing a K&N pod is not the way you want to go, but you could do a snorkel mounted air filter instead, or a bucket mounted on the wing.

That would give you a heap of space to run the pipe to the inlet manifold.

    Cheers

    Hi David,

    Sounds like an interesting project.

    We demand photos :x

I had a chat with Cousin John this morning and his view was that the change in angle of the steering shaft and the subsequent extended length can be accommodated in the existing assembly. That is adjustment only.

    He hasn't done this yet.

This seems to be the situation with body lifted discos and Rangies as well.

David's lift should be a lot easier than Cousin John's. David has a truck cab not a CSW.

    Thanks Mahn,
Thats information that I'm looking for as feel this will be the only real problem to a body lift.
There is some adjustment in shaft length and the lower steering shaft bracket on the firewall can be slightly lowered if necessary if alignment becomes an issue. On looking at Rangie kits no mention of steering extensions so probably not an issue.

I have the chassis completely stripped down so in next week or so will decide what I will do, body lift or leave standard. I have seen a 110 with this body lift and will try and speak to owner.

Then I need to see about engineering.
    David.
