TD5 harmonic balancer, Ross vs OE and the rest

Is the Ross balancer worth the extra $ over, say, a Powerbond/Dayco?

The Genuine balancer is a dual mass setup, the Ross is I believe a conventional but nicely engineered bonded balancer.

Anyone with actual experience of the Ross Tuffbond balancer ?

I have got one Rick its a nice looking bit of kit
Installed it and forgot it the originals have a habit of failing so I installed it as a matter of course
    Nothing negative to say

    Thanks Duane.

How are the engine vibes after fitting?
I'm surprised how coarse the TD5 is compared to the 3.2 TDCi at idle and am wondering if it's either engine mounts or the balancer.

    Rick
Id say more than likely engine mounts as they are oil filled and tend to perish with age and die

Rick to be honest it still sounds like a TD5 certainly hasn't made it better in my opinion.
Its funny some TD5s sound really nice others sound a bit coarse not sure why
Maybe engine mounts are the issue

That's what I was thinking Chris.

It'd been a while since I'd driven a TD5 but I didn't remember them being that coarse at idle.

I recently replaced my Orings and washers and I reckon the idle is smoother. I reckon that there must be a lot of TD5s around with slightly leaking washers. It may have been the correct adjustment of the injectors after the repair or just no air in the system.
There is NO squeal from the fuel pump now on ign on, and even with crook washers mine only squealed for about a second. My take from this is that if the fuel pump squeals AT ALL then the washers are suspect and this may make the idle a bit rougher.

I run a powerbond HB, or at least I did on the blue car, it was fine. Powerbond, Ross, either is fine.
On an auto don't forget to do the gearbox mounts as well as the engine ones.

As above , while things like slightly leaking injector washers and bump clearances can cause slight imbalance ( easy to see with nanocom etc) , the most likely culprit are engine mounts( buy genuine only) it'll be a world of difference , also have used power bond harmonic balancers with no problems, are you thinking this is the cause of your vibration Rick? because they don't tend to cause that unless completely knackered .

I had a TD5 that appeared to have an incredibly noisy A/C compressor the noise only occurred when the A/C was turned on
It turned out to be the harmonic balancer
