Actually the hi/low input has nothing to do with the traction control, the ABS uses it only for HDC, it's more important for the engine management:
High/low detect switchA high/low detect switch is fitted in the front output housing and connects to earth when low is selected. The switch is
connected to the engine ECM, the SLABS ECU and the EAT ECU.
The purpose of the switch is to enable selection
of the hill descent feature and to modify the engine fuelling and automatic gearbox gearshift maps stored within the
respective ECM's and ECU's
If you have an EGT gauge you'll observe that if "low selected" input is sent without the gear to be in low the EGT will go high and the throttle will be more agressive cos there will be more fuel injected as for the low gear's higher torque without mechanical backup though i found this usefull to climb steep hills without gearing down too much.
