I haven't read the whole thread (sorry) so if I'm repeating something, smack me down! I've been buying from Tempe Tyres in Sydney for years. Who ever heard of Atturo's a few years back? They're black and round and they keep my undersides from scraping. Never had a problem with them on my BMW X5 TD. They freight them cheaply and I get local guys to fit. I am in the country. I've got Cooper Zeon LTZ's on my RRS on 20" rims, no dramas.
Don't stop at the first bit,
The worst tyres I have used and numerous travel companions are Coopers.
It's been said over and over again.
There is any other brand I would choose over them.
But that's my position based on very very dangerous experiences, not " my mates sisters second cousin" said.
My opinion so what right?
Consider this.
How many other brands have reports of such catastrophic failures with resultant damage?
Not the wah wah winge of "I got a flat tyre" wah "they didn't last as long as brand x" and opinions/ preferences on footprint, noise, comfort, but consistent multiple reports of catastrophic, "lucky we weren't killed" or hurt.
There is absolutely nothing to be gained by those who do not support Cooper tyres.
They took the time to share the experiences so that others may be better informed and avoid the potential for problems and outright disaster.
Now with that in mind go and buy Coopers if you are happy with the odds of being a happy Cooper user vs another brand.
Your cash your car your safety.
That's just it isn't it, that's the common thread between all the scuttlebutt. Then you get blokes at places like Tyrepower telling you that Coopers are the best above all else, why would you get anything else?! Thanks Tyrepower, thanks a lot!Quote:

Bought my coopers from Tyre power on their recommendation middle of last year. They put 40lbs in each and the handling was very very dangerous. I called the Cooper support number and they said no more than 32. Why didn’t tyre power have this basic knowledge? hmmm....my local tyre guys recommended Coopers.
Might try find some General Grabber. The other brands recommended don't seem to have 255/55/R18s which is a shame.

Following on from my previous remarks re BFG All Terrains and General Grabbers, I do not know how relevant this is, but TWICE I have come across a BFG All terrain with a nail in it driving absolutely fine, towing at high speeds, going off road taking guns around a shoot, etc. In each case the nail was only found by accident, like jacking up the wheel to do something else. I do appreciate that temperatures and off road conditions in Oz are very different to the Yorkshire Dales, Scottish Highlands and so on. But a tyre that can perform so well when "wounded" as it were, must show strength of construction and the formula must be one that is flexible enough to seal around a nail well enough to lose little to no air pressure under difficult conditions. Complaints here seem to be about Coopers having too hard a compound. Worth thinking about?Quote:

Good design shouldn’t be updated “just for the hell of it”.
It should only be updated if the update has merit...
