Hi Scott
Whats the difference besides the Lead/acid lead/calcium?? How does it affect the systems performance???
Mine has an AC Delco maint free battery, usually a very good battery, but havent checked its type.It was in the vehicle(TD5 Disco)when I bought it.Im hoping it OK as I have another perfectly good matching battery I was going to use for a dual battery setup.
Andrew
The one in my first Td5 Disco went at 3 years
In the second (current) at 2.5
I do mainly short city trips so probably never gets a good charge and we have a fridge (no second battery).
Just replaced it with a Bond Ultimate Silver/Calcium - seemed to have appropriate specs and was the closest to the original in Leongatha!
My battery is still the first.
Defender 01/2000
And now we have winter. The last 2 weeks we always had about -5 to -10 degrees. Since last x-mas we had only one week with + degrees...
Never had such a good battery in a car!
I reckon that anything over two years is pretty good.
When I sold batteries many years ago, they were all designed and made to last about 3 years give or take 12 months. It would depend on the abuse it got.
Having said that, I had a battery in Switzerland that was about 7 to 8 years old and still going. Touch wood. Although i do not know how long it lasted when I sold the car.
The alternators are different on the DiscoII. They're supposed to be a faster charge rate than the DiscoI & the Lead Acid batteries can't handle it.Quote:

A calcium battery also requires a special battery charger to bring them up to full charge in a few hours. A normal charger can take around 3-4 days to bring them up to near full charge.
I've seen DiscoIIs fitted with Lead Acid batteries that have boiled over so I would advise you have your battery checked.
TD5 Auto 11/2000 - original battery still strong.

He he he - when i was in the tyre game we used to say "Roll on winter" love the weather change battery sales..... and the battery tester that printed reports - licenece to print money loved giving out the report saying well if may fail in the near future...
On the same token it was great to give customers a report saying it should be ok for some while..
