    Have you had a look behind the glove box...?
    Sounds like your relay for the box/lighter socket has been patched across.

    Not sure I follow your patch comment but the lighter socket is switched so the cubby is on a different circuit - just checked in my car, the centre console socket is fuse 19 (15amps) and the cubby is fuse 59 (10 amps).

    As I said if I don't find specifically what I am looking for I will just piggy back off the console socket and leave the 15 amp fuse as is as I do not use the lighter and anything I plug in there is low power.
