They seem to split around the seams. But the new one is a different design.
The advice I got was a water temp sensor is no help because if the bottle splits and the water goes out there's no water for the sensor to read so no reading. So you cook it before you know there's a problem 8O
But I'm not a mechanic. Does that sound right?
That is what happens with the water temp guage, if there is no water near the temp guage it may not read correctly. The idea of the water sensor is that the sensor does not activate whilst water makes a circuit across the sensor. Once water is removed the sensor should activate the alarm. Light, audible or both.
They seem to offer a solution, but I have also been told the loss of water can be rapid and the engine must be shut down quickly to avoid damage and this sometimes does not occur.
Lots of urban myths seem to float around this one as well.
My wife said she pulled over and shut down the engine the instant the warning light came on, but it was already too late :roll:

I have one I fitted. The mechanic who supplied it also supplied a "plug" that fits in the top of the radiator. He had already tapped this to take the gauge.
Easy to install and seal.
Had a hose go, this unit has a red light you can mount that comes on, if it is on for 3 seconds the buzzer then goes off.
Let me know when the hose went and no damage done to the engine.
