Pretty good...
Hi
Looking for an idea of if my intercooler is performing ok based on the following temps measured with a thermocouple wire.
.................................................. Inlet ;Outlet
................................100kph on flat 105; 57
.....................................110 on flat 120; 62
...............................Moderate accel 120; 59
....................Full accel through gears 140; 65
................................................ idle 57; 53
So basically it is producing an inlet temp of about ambient plus 20 to 30 degrees in these weather conditions.
So is this reasonable performance for my tdi ( Jase's upgrade) intercooler?
thanks
Pretty good...
Anything around 70% efficiency is considered good for an air to air on a (petrol turbo engine) from a performance standpoint. An actual air temp would help make calculation better but we'll say 30c judging by your post. Do the math on you full acceleration you get 140-65=75 and then 140-30=110.
Divide 75/110=.68 or 68% efficiency so about bang on for a good intercooler
Hi eddo, a "charge air" temperature of about 55-60 degrees is very good, and thanks for sharing the info.
given the limitations of space and that its an air to air cooler I'd be very happy with that.
On big diesel engines we aim for 50-55 degrees, but we're using water to cool the air and our intercoolers are not restricted by space like in the front of a car. We generally avoid going below 50 degrees.
is your intercooler in the same place as the original ? or is a full width one ?
