    TD5, warped exhaust manifold

How many of us have had theTD5 blow its exhaust gasket , how many have been the result of a warped manifold .

If so has anyone had the manifold modified to prevent warping. 8O

Whats the go with these manifolds ops:

Anyway I have bought ten new studs and the gaskets I need, so after I get the two broken studs out And have the manifold faced i will put it back together :? before I do any Landrover secrets I could do with knowing

I'm not sure if the manifold warps & breaks the studs or the studs break then the manifold warps.

We've had a few surface ground to get them flat again & then replaced the studs. It took a few machine shops before we could get one who'd do the work though. They're not easy to set up apparently.

TWICE ! mmmmm this could get boring very quickly, I hope this is a one off for me.

I bought the gear to fix this because the LR extended warranty mob advised they don't cover exhaust systems ,,,,,and they photo copied the "items not covered "to prove it :!: .......I wish I had had another look at the policy before I bought the bits,,,, under engine componants covered, it lists exhaust manifold. 8) another gem of LR PR. 8O ops:  *#@&!!!

With each day my old V8 is looking better and better.
God I had a good run with it

I'd be interested in that Ray, as i did mine just recently, broken stud and warped manifold.

Got the manifold machined by an engineering workshop in Barry Ave Penshurst, he says he's done a few TD5s, at $40 i can't complain.

And as luck would have it, i had a stud left over from my old Superbike that i blew up before the last Bathurst race in 88 , fitted perfect
    Cheers Baz.

You guys wouldn't have chipped diesels that cause higher EGTs by any chance???

I know Hiline & Redback are chipped but it happens with the standard diesels also.
We had a run of them last year but not one for a few months now.

No real surprise it warped if chipped, the hotter engines do it.

Mines gone 3 times, warped manifold every time too.

Extended warranty paid up each time.

It depends how the claim is worded.
A tech here has told me that the studs break first, then the gasket blows, then the manifold warps.
If the claim was worded that way, then it's not an actual exhaust claim. It's an engine claim with the exhaust affected as consequential damage.
