LR have a modified pipe with a vibration coil/loop in the line.
Or just go to Pirtek or similar & get a new one. I think Ace did that with his 300Tdi.
The biggest hassle with replacing the lift pump is getting the old gasket off. It took ages with a razor blade to scrape it off. There is not alot of room to move down there. Mine just started dripping too, I just drove home to Syd from Brisbane, no dramas. I have always carried one in my spares kit, I kid you not. They are cheap insurance. I did think about changing it on the Gold Coast but glad I waited til I got home as it was a fiddle.

Thanks for the help everyone. I have ordered a new one. Then I might have a go at it - if I can do it without undoing the 4 metal fuel lines on the fuel injection pump then I might do it myself, otherwise just ask a mechanic to change it. The manual says to undo them, but one of the sale guys I spoke to said you can just loosen them.
In the manual it says 'fit the fuel pump ensuring that the operating lever is correctly positioned on the cam shaft'. Will this be obvious? If I take it off with the lever clicked in the top position, can I just put the new one in with the lever in the top position?

Olives were mentioned above. Check with your supplier to ensure that the pump comes with them. My OEM part came with out them.
I don't remember having an issue with the actuating lever engaging with the cam but maybe that was just good fortune.
Sorry, I should have mentioned. I also ordered olives/nuts (4 of them incase something goes wrong) and 2 gaskets. Thought I would have a spare one incase I rip one, but I just noticed in the manual there is a gasket, spacer and another gasket...looking under my bonnet it looks to have only the one gasket and no spacer (but it is hard to see in there) - I suppose I'll find out when I get a chance to do it.
I think I loosened off two of the fuel injection pipe, or I took two of them off.
It isn't a difficult job, just awkward to get your hand and the tools into the right place.
The most difficult parts of it were working out that I needed something to stand on to get enough height to get into position, and getting the new gasket to sit in the right place and hold the pump and do up the bolts.

Oh, and don't do it when it's raining.
Early 300Tdi's didn't have a spacer fitted. LR found that the pump was over-stroking & fitted one to the later engines.
If yours doesn't have one, then fit one.
The LR part # is ERR7339 (it's a thicker gasket which acts as a spacer) - around $3.00 from LR.

Replaced it this morning - took 1.5 hours and I was working slowly - triple checking everything. Really quite simple and seems to have solved the leak.
I ended up completely removing all 4 metal fuel injection pipes - this makes it so much easier in terms of access.
Then I just let it crank until it started. Maybe 5 seconds it took...5 seconds is a long time while cranking and gives plenty of time to think "why isn't it starting yet". But it started no worries.
