G'day Fellows,
ok, weekend is over and I had time to look around... yet found nothing.
That is :
1. remove the belt, start the engine, the oil light come off... so the oil light on is indeed not linked to any alternator belt slipping for example... just to be sure !
2. inspected the belt, nothing to be seen !
3. checked all pulleys, included tensioner and crankshaft pulley, no one feels having a problem, being loose or having a hard spot
4. tested the tensioner, and it is really fine
5. fitted new belt, as it is not expensive and the old one was more than 4 years old anyway
6. garden hose everywhere on the engine bay while idling, on oil sensor, all over the belt, alternator, etc... NOTHING happened !!!
Oh yes, just one thing happened, as I am running an EDIS ignition setup, I took an electric shock on touching one of the coilpacks with the water hose, so I will need to replace it, but it was running fine :o)
I really start to believe (as some of you suggest) that at least the engine "wanted to stall" when exiting the round about, hence the warning lights on and steering stiffness, but recovered afterwards (or not) when my wife pulled over on the side ... even though she keeps on swearing that when stopped on the side, the engine was running, but all lights on and pas off ...
Yet, she could not remember the engine RPM (I asked) and she said also the engine oil pressure gauge I have on dash was saying 0 (consistent with the oil light switch), but how could that be possible with the engine running (except if oil pump suddenly died ... yet running ok since then after switch off and restart... with good consistent oil pressure - 40 psi when driving, 20 psi idling, never below... )
Oh, by the way, indeed, the A/C was on and the A/C aux fans could always be heard according to the wife...
I will stop asking her questions now about this matter, as I might soon get into trouble you know, like "you are not trusting me" ;)), and I like the words : "happy wife = happy life".
Yet, I have no clue how all this could have happened except indeed engine stalled or nearly stalled ...
Side note : nothing found around the batteries (dual exide agm batteries with IBS coupling relay), all connections and posts are fine...
Anyhow, thank you all for your help and ideas. I just wanted to update the situation for what it is worth.
Still one thing in my mind now... why the 3.9 auto stalled exiting the round-about !?! will have to keep an eye on this on future runs...
Cheers
Erik.
