Does your owner's manual have a schedule of service items?
Hi all,
I have got a quotation on my defender td5's 40000km service, it cost me $900 from Parramatta Land Rover. I am just wondering what will be done for the service? i,e, replace engine oil, filter, gear and T/box oil... and...??

40 000km service. Both oil filters, air filter, fuel filter. Engine oil, front and rear diff oils, transfer case and gearbox oil. Possibly brake fluid if required. Lubricate all uni joints, door locks/latches, hinges, etc. When we do that service it usually comes out around $600.
Thankx. That's sound a lot cheaper than $900. Is your company based in Sydney area? If yes, then I'll bring my 90 in for service.
cheers
Greg
None of it is rocket science. Depends how much you like your warranty or if the warranty has run out. You should be able to do the service yourself for aroung $200 including buying all oils and filters.
$600 is not bad with hourly rates these days. $900 is excessive.
I do all my own servicing as soon as the vehicle is out of warranty and all the non required 5,000km services when under warranty. I have learnt that most workshops do not do all the items on the schedule no matter what they say. Some are better than others though. Little things like putting tape over drain plugs, marking spark plugs etc catch the bad service dealers out.
This has paid for all my tools etc by doing it yourself. Specialist items I will still take to a reputable workshop however.

Sorry, no where near Sydney... Alice Springs.
I do my own servicing and if I can't I call a mate to come and help. Last resort is get one of his contacts to come and srt it out.
I'm with Craige there, mine Defender runs out of warranty at the end of this month and everything I possibly can I'll do myself.
This way I'll know it's been done just as I knew things hadn't been done by the main stealer!
I had it checked by Rovertech and the stealer has just changed the rocker cover gasket and fuel pressure regulator and also without my asking, the clutch master cylinder.
Pity they can't adjust clutches properly though as the damn thing is nearly fully engaged about 1" off the floor with too much freeplay at the top.
I wonder if they ever check specs. before they do a job?
I'll fix that this weekend ........ is there anything I should look out for or not do?
My 40000 service cost around $750 from memory (or what's left of it) and I'm sure it was done correctly but it was not done by the stealer. What got up my nose was being charged $58 for "sundries"! Was this for rags to clean their hands on or wot?
Cheers.
Alan.

AlanH,
Mine is the same at the moment. Ran out of time to adjust it up on Wednesday night. Just needed to get it back on the road asap. Was going to do last night but my boy was rushed to hospital yesterday after headbutting aother kid when they collided running around, seems he went face first into the concrete. Looked more like he had been in a car accident.
Anyway the adjustment is fairly easy. The adjusting rod rod needs to be adjusted up so that it is about 1.5mm off the piston face in the master cylinder. Pull back the rubber trunnion boot first.
Before doing this adjust the pedal to 140mm off the floor not including rubber mat. This is done with a lock nut and bolt on the front of the clutch master cylinder bracket. Pain to get to.
If you do not have a manual pm me with a fax number and I will fax the section to you.
Cheers
