Not sure of your location, but Graeme Cooper and other Landy specialists will fit one and add a button to the dash for between $600-800, i think that is the going rate. Its well worth it i am told. Matt
Hey all,
I used to have a Series 1 disco until a year ago and now am looking to get another Disco, this time a SII. I'm hoping to get a latest model (bug-eyed model) that has the centre diff lock factory fitted, but finances may mean getting an earlier series II model.
I know the technical jumbo about the two variants of early series II, one had the diff internals just not the connecting interlock, and the other didn't have anything at all.
basically, what am i looking for to connect up the centre diff lock to each type? i know ARB do one for models with the internals, but do other people?
i just want to know how much to allow depending on which model I end up going with.
thanks a lot
nathan

The only sure way of buying the right model is crawloing underneath
and checking for the transfer case shaft to fit the diff lock and remember
there was some that had no diff lock internals fitted so do not believe the carsales men.
Yes it does make a big difference to the vehicle off road
disco seriesII mods so far:-bullbar,hyd winch,
detriot locker, lsd front,C.D.L kit, chipped and bigger intercooler,2" lift, rock sliders, lsd in transfer case, modified auto trans.

Do a search on the site for CDL you'll find lots of threads about it.
Mine has an AMV kit in it... as Ace said allow around $600-800 it the internals are in the transfer case..

I have an AMV kit fitted. Magic! the dash unit replaces the ash tray or coin holder and looks part of the original fit. Works all the time every time although I have only found the need to lock the diff in really soft sand.
Yep AMV kit fitted to my "99 S2 and it works a treat. I have also had a switch fitted so that when I turn off the ignition with the CDL engaged the ABS and TC still works when you turn the car back on again. Without the switch when you turn off the ignition with the CDL engaged and then turn the car back on again the TC and ABS are disengaged.....good for sand etc so you have the flexibility. Before, I used to have to switch the CDL off and reverse a couple of metres for it to properly disengage before I could turn the car off and on again to get TC and ABS back. Fine if you have room but once I had no room to manouvre and couldn't get the CDL to disengage and therefore couldn't get my TC and ABS on again....had to just blast up the hill wheels ablazin'
That's very long winded but basically it is a simple switch that turns off the CDL dash light so the car thinks it is disengaged.....means you don't have to manouvre to discenage the CDL.
Sorry for going on and yes AMV works very well
any reason people go for the electronic AMV one, and not a manual version like this one - http://www.discoveryauto.com.au/upgrade/ma...20difflock3.htm ??
i think i prefer the manual one as it's the same 'H' gate diff lock as the Series 1 and the last of the Series 2 models.
pros and cons?
I have fitted a D1 CDL kit to my D2 works fine however i have noticed a little more road noise and chatter from the linkages I have fixed the chatter with some springs in the right places but the road noise is still there.
I like this option - http://www.discoveryauto.com.au/upgrade/ma...20difflock3.htm
but the $$ would be high the D1 option cost me $75 from my local LR garage

FWIW this is what i did -
http://www.expeditionexchange.com/cdl/
well, the AMV seems to be about $750, the manual one was $800 kit and $150 to fit.
