'Flushing oil concentrate' - snake oil?

I got asked my opinion on this stuff:

Flushing Oil Concentrate - Cost Effective Maintenance

I said 'snake oil'....I just cant see it actually being that effective, I've rebuilt the odd motor and a fair bit of elbow grease is required to get the coked up ones pristine. And do you really want 10 years of build up released into your oil galleries?

Happy to be proved wrong on this.

Some people that have used this stuff swear by it others that have used it recon its crap.
Personally I don't know either way because I have never used it But you would think that if is as good as they say it is then why aren't the car manufacturers recommending its use as part of their service schedules?

Most (all?) are generally not much more than kero... Maybe a bit of dye and perfume mixed in. Kero can be quite effective in this application. But a few hundred mls in ten ltrs of sump oil won't do a huge amount apart from clean your wallet. Needs to be 30-50% to do it properly IMHO.

I use this stuff: Oil System Cleaner | Wynn's Europe and I reckon that it's pretty much the same as the stuff from your url. My experience has been (on a large number of different vehicles) that using it on an engine that is pretty much gunked up does pretty much next to nothing. I guess it could work, if you repeat the procedure numerous times but not worth it really.

I did a honda engine (good engines) with 300K's on the clock and it made a visible difference in the brown buildup of dirt (mostly carbon) but it did not clean it entirely, not by far I would say.

On my P38 V8 I use it just before every oil change. Just toss it in with the used up oil, let it run (idle) for 20 minutes and drain and replace the oil filter. I would not even THINK of loading the engine or letting it rev over idle since this cleaning stuff substantially alters the properties of the oil and with it the load carrying capacity of the oil film that protects your main bearings, to name one Anyway, I have found that using it every oil change does help in preventing the buildup of sludge and I have yet to find any negative side effects.

So, as a preventative measure it works great, as a solution after the problem has already occured, no. I agree with you that potentially dislodging years old sludge with the chance of clogging up something else is NOT a good idea.

Ask the owner of the business, he is a defender owner and on here

I found the product to be very effective myself

A couple of good threads on here over the years about how it did what it needed to do in a few different engines

I've used it and recommended it to others. Works as claimed - full stop. I'd seen the ads for years and thought "yeah, right, don't believe that". Eventually tried it on an old hilux engine (2L diesel?) and after using it thought we'd forgotten to put the oil in; the oil on the dipstick was that clear. 5l of oil in, about 5.5 to 6 litre had came out after the flush. Engine oil remained a lot cleaner for the next two oil changes without using the product, so "yeah, it works".

I was skeptical when I handed over $55 for 250ml of fuel system cleaner, and thought i'd be a guinea pig, after the 3rd tank of diesel the rattle quietened done and she runs smoother at idle without a hunt.

The Car manufacturers would never recommend anything to prolong the life of your engine & make speccing easier .

They are in the business to make money from the consumer. Thats what the EGR is all about , it forces exhaust gas into your inlet & gums the engine up with carbon.

Thats also why Car salesman have been directed not to sell Electric Cars , there is no money in maintenance, nothing to maintain.

Also think about why Td5 engines are so clean inside , you never see a slugged up Td5 , its because the diesel leaks past the Injector seals , its basically always running FOC .
