    TD5 coolant flow

A quick question regarding temoval of the EGR cooler and flow back to the expansion tank.

Would a restrictor be needed in the return pipe from the oil cooler?

I threw the car back together last night as I need it today but didn't check if there's a restrictor in the old ****ty plastic tube.

I ran the EGR cooler under the tap and the flow through the cooler is what I'd expect for that size tube.
The flow back to the expansion tank with the EGR cooler removed is fairly substantial and it's been a few weeks since the car last ran so can't recall what the flow back to the tank looked like.

    Cheers.

Rick, you can blank the outlet on the oil cooler and get rid of the lot if you are de egr'ed.

I have removed the EGR + cooler and all associated pipework, that return line from the egr literally fell apart while removing, very brittle with age.

The only restrictor to my knowledge is on the fuel cooler.

    ^ no restrictor required.
re: getting rid of the hose all together. Suggest a short piece of hose with bung, rather than than an off the shelf blanking cap.

    Thanks fellas.

The plastic line from the EGR cooler shattered a few weeks ago when i was removing the EGR valve so the whole bloody lot has come out including the vacuum solenoids.

Temps were fine on the run up to the GC this morning.

I was just going to use a blanking plug Mark but then thought the oil cooler might need that flow so turned the EGR cooler supply hose 90°, chopped the leg shorter and used a 1/2"-5/16" barb with an 8mm hose back to the expansion tank.

Oil cooler doesn't need the flow through that spigot Rick, there is adequate flow through the block.
There is a factory part to blank the spigot as on later d2's however as said a small piece of hose and a plug will be a lot cheaper.
