    200tdi starter clicking rapidly

I have bought a 110 200tdi non running as another project. I fitted a new battery and when I turn the key all I hear is rapid clicking. The motor doesn’t turn over.

Is this likely to be an earthing issue with the starter? Will a jumper lead fix/health earth it so I can start it and move it into the work space?
    Thanks

A good earth is essential, the chassis to engine earth is probably dirty and/or loose. Check with a socket on the crank to make sure the motor turns over too.

Thanks. It’s damn hard to access. I can’t even see the top of it.

Do I have to remove the turbo dump pipe to access the starter?
    Thanks

I found the answer on another forum. Removing the dump pipe seems to be required for access to the 200tdi starter.

Putting it in gear and giving it a push back and forwards does the same trick as hitting the starter.
