    Code Amendment

Good news, has just been amended today:

4WD lift heights increased to provide greater consistency | Transport and motoring | Queensland Government

4WD lift heights increased to provide greater consistency

Changes have been made to the rules for 4WD lift modifications in Queensland, which come into effect 26 October 2018.
The maximum allowable total lift height for 4WDs in the Queensland Code of Practice: Vehicle Modifications has been increased from 125mm to 150mm, bringing Queensland into line with national standards.
For vehicles with electronic stability control (ESC), the maximum lift without certification has also been increased to 75mm. This change is consistent with rules that apply for non-ESC vehicles in Queensland, New South Wales and Victoria.
These changes have been introduced following extensive consultation with the 4WD and motor vehicle community, including RACQ, the Australian Automotive Aftermarket Association (AAAA), Caravanning Queensland, suppliers of aftermarket lift kits, tyre suppliers and fitters, and Approved Persons accredited to issue modification certificates.
With the maximum certifiable lift limit increasing to 150mm, limits on components making up the total lift have also changed. These internal (component) limits for suspension, tyres and body blocks are also consistent with national standards.
The following table summarises lift requirements and the limits that apply in Queensland.
Lift height guide (for ESC and non-ESC vehicles)

Certification Suspension Tyres Body blocks Total lift
Not required up to 50mm up to 25mm 0mm up to 75mm
Required up to 75mm up to 25mm up to 50mm up to 150mm
Lifts above the required limits outlined in this table require individual approval from the Department of Transport and Main Roads.
To find out more about the changes to the vehicle lift modification codes, refer to the Queensland Code of Practice: Vehicle Modifications.
It is important to remember unsafe vehicle modifications can put all road users at increased risk of accident or injury. A high lift also changes the zone of impact on other vehicles in a crash and the glare from headlights, increasing the risk to other road users and pedestrians.
The owners of vehicles with high lifts are encouraged to make sure modifications are compliant and approved to ensure the safety of all road users.
To find out more about minor modifications that do not need certification or approval, refer to the Minor Modifications Vehicle Standards Instruction G19.10.
