300 TDI. Part of loom destroyed by front driveshaft

G'day all. On the way home today I was bought to a halt by a portion of the wiring loom dropping down and being torn away by the front driveshaft. I've got an auto electrician coming tomorrow, but now that the part of the loom is no longer in position, I don't know where it came form, or was going to. Can anyone help with suggestions of where to look for the spots where the new wiring must be connected to. The piece removed is a factory potion of the loom, and was all wrapped as one. It contained; grey/red
    black
    black/blue
a double insulated of white/yellow inside black insulation
    a separately wrapped pair green
    green/brown
    any help appreciated.
    Don.

Probably goes to the gearbox and includes stuff like speedo, reverse, diff lock light etc.

The speedo is entirely mechanical, but I've lost reverse lamps, and have no red dash lights. Don't know what else yet. It cranks, but won't start. I suspect one of the wires goes to a fuel solenoid.

The fuel solenoid wire might just be a find-it-and-plug-it-back-on job (back of the injector pump), the loom tweak may have simply disconnected it. Ditto for the oil pressure and alternator wires. If the loom break is before these items then obviously some new wires will have to be fitted. Getting it running for now should be no harder than connecting the fuel solenoid directly to the ignition switch. The reverse lights circuit may have blown a fuse when the wires were torn off. Ditto the instruments fuse.

Thanks Bee utey, I'll investigate those ones.I've found one of the wires is the switch wire for the park brake. There's another, now disconnected plug lying across the top of the transfer case. (photos) Anyone know what it is?

How long till someone suggests a box of matches?

Seriously though...... you'll get it fixed with patience, don't rush.

How did it drop down in the first instance?

I wonder the same thing. The way the wire was caught by the grease nipple and then rolled up suggests it fell down and was caught in a matter of moments. I don't think it could have been there long before it happened. I'd just come through the Galston gorge. Lucky it didn't happen in there. As it ran out of fuel and the engine stopped, I was able to steer onto a nicely mown verge.

The Auto electrician turned up this morning while I was getting my broken knee seen by the surgeon, and had it all rebuilt in a little over an hour. All good again. No matches required.
