As I indicated I just use a big shifter - these are big plugs and as they only keep oil in they do not need high torque so as long as they have not been overtightened then a shifter is fine.

I guess yours have been overtightened and you are having trouble getting them out - then definitely do not used a shifter but they only need to be just a little more than hand tight to stay in place.

Yeah, I can appreciate how tight they 'should' be.... I'm also having to accept that all the cursing in the world won't make it loosen up!

I assume you are talking about the filler on the passenger side of the gearbox (not the transfer case). There is another hexigon headed thing nearby that I assume is part of the gearbox operating system - you are not trying to undo that are you?

Yah. Mine is not that size. Not sure what you have or if you are looking at the wrong thing.

Still not sure why you can’t use an 11/16” socket or wrench.

Part number search comes up with the plug being interchangeable with a Series II/III diff filler plug.
Just checked one and 3/4" AF wasn't a tight fit but would do the job. Whether they changed the hex size at some point I don't know.

That one has been seriously butchered. 3/4" is the correct size - just buy a new one.
