Without looking 11/16” is 17.5 mm.
My filler plug has been abused in a past life (looks like a cold chisel has been used to open it).
Before I do more damage, what's the correct socket size? 17mm seems too tight, and 18mm seems too loose.

Yeah, I know that's a size between the two - I just want to know what size others here use.
I'm concerned that if 17mm is the 'correct size' then I need to clean up the damage so it fits

The best fit on mine is actually a Whitworth spanner - can't remember what size though!

Dammit - nothing seems to fit sweetly. 3/4 is way too big. Looks like I'm going to have to go at it with a cold chisel.
Out of curiosity, is there any cheaper replacement alternatives for the filler plug? Looks like they're about $50 a pop.

What is wrong with 11/16”?
What's the thread size ? A BSP blanking plug would be a few dollars in cast iron and a bit more in brass.
I supply a LR repair shop with nickel plated brass 1/2" BSP plugs. Captive O-ring seal, female hex for an Allen key. Used for 300TDi cooling systems & diffs (not sure which models).
Any Auto parts supplier (Autobarn etc.) will have a catalogue of drain plugs but you need to know the thread size.

Which plug are you exactly talking about? My LT95 filler plugs are not that size.
