Thread: TD5 intercooler clean out

Workshop manual calls for it to be done every 80,000kms 8) so I guess yours could be due a flush. 8O

LR lists a part number for their own flushing solvent, STC9713,,, but if you ask around blokes have used all sorts of solvents. I have done mine with acetone and dont seem to have had any problems.

When you have cleaned it, I found that letting the engine idle for a period with the intercooler to manifold hose disconnected at the manifold end,, allowed the hot air from the turbo to dry the intercooler well 8) . of course be mindfull that you have no air filtering while you do this so keep an eye out for FOD. ops:

Well I just scoured the workshop manual and must say I didnt find any reference to TD5 intercooler flushing.

Could you post the page....?

It shows HOW to do it and what to use, but doesnt seem to specify an interval.

It is on the RAVE CD workshop manual. The chapter is Pre Delivery Inspection and Maintenance. It is a part of the maintenance check list. It is a "B" service item and is highlighted as only required every 80,000 kms.

It is item 30 within the "under bonnet" group of tasks. 8)

I sold my hard copy manual, I can't remember if the maintenance check list is in there. :?

I will scan the checklist tonight and post it under its own thread.

Should have done mine when I had it out a couple of months ago. I did clean the bugs of the outside though.

Im going to do mine in the morn.Cant find anything in the reciepts saying its been done.Will let you know how I get on.

I just looked up the RAVE CD.Its too big a job to tackle this weekend with other stuff to get ready for next weekend.
It involves removing viscous fan, grille,battery and tray,unbolting radiator then you can remove the intercooler.
I was hoping for unbolt securing bolts and intercooler hoses and lift out.NOT TO BE
