And the clicking stops when the flasher relay is removed?
When I first got the d1 it had no problems, after i got the RWC the clicking slowly started. It's been almost a year now and it just clicks away non stop all the time now.... At first I thought the hazard switch was playing up as its common on defenders and it hadn't been pressed for a long time before the RWC. I've pulled the switch out and bypassed the switch to test it but it keeps clicking still.
I pulled the indicator stalk completely apart, springs went flying of course. Gave it a good clean out, managed to get it all back together with a hassle but it still clicks away.
Rigged up a Bosch relay but wasn't getting any signal, I don't think it was a flasher anyway I might try a 4 pin flash can or similar.
I pulled the lucas relay apart and can't find anything obvious inside it, it all looks A ok.
I'm guessing either the relays stuffed or it's getting an earth along the line somewhere... I'm gonna buy another relay in the next couple of days and try try that.
I read that the wrong bulbs can do weird things to them but that sounds a bit mythical...
Any other ideas would be great!

Yes it does it's all in the relay I even pulled the little spring out of it and it just got stuck on, it still works fine all the indicators work and it clicks like it should when it's ment too. It just clicks all the time when it's not ment too.
I tried rigging up an old 4 pin hella flasher can from my s3 but kept popping fuses, obviously needs a special Lucas type.

I recently had something similar in my '95 defender. Relay on all the time, but fast when the indicators not selected, normal speed when you switch them on. It was the relay but had me foolers. I too was chasing the hazard switch and ground issues. I expected the relay to simply fail to an non-working state so it was the last thing that was looked at.
Anyone know if the d2 or p38 uses the same Lucas relays? Or just the d1, RRC and some def?
Alright this is getting weird now I've now put it all back together, new indicator fuse, put old relay back in, hazard switch back in. Now the relay is barely clicking (when it's not ment too) only now and then, hazards no longer working (i cant remember separate fuses?) And indicators work like they should bloody weird. Ill read the book for a separate hazard fuse I can't remember now.

What's the exact spec of the vehicle involved cos in the first post it's about a D1 (without mentioning the year which is important cos there are differencies between years) then in post #5 it's a question about D2 and P38 relays while the D2 doesnt have a flasher relay at all... also are you 100% sure that the clicking is coming from the flasher unit and not from the MFU? be more specific and i'll try to help
Discovery Td5 (2000), manual, tuned
It's coming from the flasher 100% I can feel it clicking away, I even pulled it apart to have a look inside. Installed it withought it's little spring and the relay just got stuck on. The cars a 97 d1, the reason I asked about the d2 and p38 is because I've seen some at the wreckers I was gonna go pull it from them. Gonna wait mid week to buy a new one now. I even tried a Bosch flasher and old flasher can but they kept popping fuses, I was hoping to find an alternative.
Cheers Jim
