I did this repair on several vac advance units probably 12-15 years ago- I'm sure I would have posted it on here but it's a long while ago- anyway I think I did 3 units and on two of them the diaphragm had no holes but had pulled away from the rim. I'd recommend using some kind of adhesive at the rim.
Like I said with the plasti dip repair you could see in 1 or 2 spots it didn't seal to the rim properly and I found a pinhole afterwards, the paint was still pretty tacky when I reinstalled it and I went overboard causing a couple of drips but I think with a bit more care and lighter coats plasti dip would work brilliantly. When I reassembled it the 1st time round I didn't hammer it shut as well as I did the 2nd.Quote:

With the nitrile rubber it's a nice even surface all the way around, I just spent the extra time panel beating it closed nice and tight all the way around. Also being nitrile I think a sealant won't stick either so I didn't use any. I'd like to get a vacuum gauge onto it and test it but testing with timing light showed that it was working perfectly.
