    D1 radius arm bushes, washers?

Hey all, ive ordered some super pro bushes for my radius arms and panhard rod. Ive already replaced the radius arm bushes before with cheap bushes to pass a RWC 12 months or so ago, and im convinced they are already shot.
Ive noticed a large gap in between the arm and mount on the diff end, if i tighten them up it really bends the mount inward.
Is it worth putting a couple of washers in so the mount clamps the arm properly?
    Cheers Jim

So the gap is with the cheap bushes, or the super pro?
If super pro, which type did you get? the split type installed by hand, or the 20T press in type, like the original bush types?

if the issue is with the old cheap bushes, sounds more like that due to their cheapness, they weren't manufactured strictly to spec.
I haven't done radius arm bushes for a good 25+ years(back in my old RRC days) .. and I did plenty of them in the time I had the RRC, but never remember there being any gap of considerable note between bolt tube of the bush and the axle flanges.
Normally what'd happen is that because of the force applied to the nut/bolt, the flange would compress itself inwards anyhow, and always make getting the bush out harder than it should have been.

Using a washer tho .. not sure. Can't see why not, as long as it's a hard enough material. And you'd want to keep things centred and use one either side, rather than one only on one side.

How much gap between flange inner and bush tube?

With the cheap bushes, sort of makes sense now. I bought the push in super pro ones, I havnt received them yet so cant compare. The gap with the cheap bushes is at least 5mm so 2 ish each side, i could move them side to side. Hopefully i wont have the same issue with the super pro ones, it honestly didnt come to me that they are just cheap ****.
Hopefully i can get them out with my 6t press, if not ill do it the slow way.
    Cheers Jim

    Ah, ok.
I highly doubt you'll have spacing issues with the push in type SuperPros.
I've never had SuperPros, but I installed Nolathane versions.
Basically the same difference other than grade and colour of poly material.

I think the only clearance issue you may have will be that the push in polys have their own side flange design, and may not squeeze into the gap between the flanges, so you may need to open the gap up a little to get the bush onto the diff end.

Back then I had a porta power(still have it) and used the v shaped bit end to open up the gap.
So may be handy to have something long and strong to use a levers to open up the diff flanges .. just in case.
Just remember to grease up the inner tube and the face of the bush that will seat into the radius arm. If you have any grease left over, use it on the flange area.

back in my RRC days, I didn't know or do the flange area, but when I did my panhard rod on my D1 about 12 months ago, my mechanic gave me that little tip.
last time I was under the D1, maybe late last year(ish) chasing up a death wobble, I triple checked the panhard rod(thinking I stuffed something up), but all nice and tight, and after removing it still looked neat and unscathed.
Death wobble turned out to be the pedders steering damper .. fitted a std damper and all good again ... Drove nuts for a few months, trying to figure out what it was me thinking I've stuffed something. But it was the less than 2yo steering damper, which I removed and checked, and felt fine(not slack spots along its travel).

One last thing: are you planning to change the nuts/bolts too?
If not, I recommend to always change them, even if you think they're pretty new.
    Arthur.

There are different width radius arm bushes so it seams you got the wrong ones.

I had that problem too in my 110. Cant remember what the bushes were but I slipped a couple of the square cyclone washers in there and tightened up. They are still there.

    Absolutely correct.

They fit the two different flange spacings used on the front diffs. Dunno when they changed.

Had the bushes move in the radius arm on my D1. Replaced radius arm due to bush hole being slightly worn.
