Cheap TD5 security idea. Feasable?

First no I can't afford to replace the accessories.
My TD5 doesn't seem to need the remote as the battery is getting flat, Only triggers the doors every 2nd time.

I did have and old car with the fuel pump and fan on its own switch. If you didn't know where the switch was you would get a block down the road and it would die from lack of fuel.

I would agree that most people wouldn't wast their time looking for the hidden kill switch but just take what they could and leve you with the damage. A pro will take it if they realy want to no matter what.

DiscoWhite - what is this transponder thing of which you speak? All I have is a normal looking ignition key. Just a thin bit of hard plastic around the head of the key, and no other things on the keyring. I've got a 2001/2002 TD5 130, so maybe it is too early a model to have one of these things.

The pro's used to buy tilt tray trucks, built insulated pantech bodies on them to steal cars. The car alarm may well be going off but due to the insulation no-one would hear them. To the unsuspecting they look like every other delivery truck in the city.

Tell you what though... I'll bet that as soon as the ECU can't see the throttle, it'll generate an ECU error which will require the computer to re-set it!!! :roll:

had the transponder thingy???

its like the any other car, ford magna holden, a little remote that unlocks
the doors and locks/arms the alarm???

The transponder is the key, and the Disco doesn't need another immobiliser, it already has one built into the ECU, so unless they have your key, they won't be driving your car anywhere.

DZ - You'd be joking! Key operation only - no remote.

I don't think it has a factory alarm at all. If it does, the previous owner didn't tell me anything about it. Do you think a 2002 130 would have one fitted originally?

Would be nice to find out that the wiring was indeed there, and all I need to do is fit a switch and a siren. That'd negate the original reason for this whole post.
