Gooday
About a month or 2 back I started a thread about my 300tdi, 31 inch shod, auto being such a slug. Appreciated the advice and ideas. There were some people who thought the risk of the injector tweak outweighed any performance gains and others that reckoned it can be managed ok-especially with an EGT gauge. Anywayss...I went ahead and got it tweaked and the result is just what i wanted-a bit of extra grunt to hold the hills. There is a local uphill stretch of a few kilometres where before the tweak I could just hold 80 in top at the slowest point and now I can get up at over 90 at the slowest point. It also cruises that much easier now at highway speeds-and all without using anymore fuel! So I am happy with that. The guy who did it (a landy man in Romsey) reckoned that I didnt need to worry about the EGT issue. BUt I do anyway. So I will check out a gauge when the $$ accumulate a bit-in the meantime I spose the coolant temperature gauge will have to do, along with a not too heavy foot.
It was veerry nice to p%$# off a nissan up that run the other day!
cheers all

very bloody rude.....
not...
this guy, a complete landy nut, seemed happy to have a chat and do the work with me leaning over his shoulder! (most workshops have signs everywhere telling you that it is not even kosher to step over the yellow line) So I got to see what he did as well and learned a bit about my car, and his. NOw i must say he did this based on his experience of doing it to his disco and others he has done. On a post in my earlier thread-you can still read it in the old forum on about page 7 or 8 of 'technical chatter' - by 'jase' the process is explained pretty clearly. And the risks are also named there.
He charged me for about half of the time he spent...a total of $30. I'm not kidding and I didnt drop a zero. It didnt take him long I spose 'cos he'd done it all before and didnt need to keep pulling it apart to fine tune things.
Yep I was pretty stoked! It cost me more than that for the fuel to get there.

It may pay to get an EGT/pyro as when I adjusted mine, and I used Ian Petersens/Thermoguards excellent instructions as well, I easily exceeded 720*C on my test hill, so backed off the diaphram adjustment about 30* from the initial setting (which a lot of people happily run) to keep things sane and safe, although my adjustments obviously may have been more than where your's is set as I'm generally 15km/h quicker over all my local mountains/hills.
