    Hope this a isn't silly

I've been thinking about carrying a kit for starting an injection pump ( no ECU) 300 TDi if there was a problem in the bush with the alarm or ignition electronics. With Lucas electrics this is a quite possible situation.

Scenario : alarm or ignition circuits fails ergo no volts to fuel solenoid or starter motor solenoid. The ignition key can still disable the steering lock.

Workaround - a jumper lead set up with appropriate terminals to run straight from battery + to the fuel solenoid. ( maybe with a fuse in line ) This gets fuel to the injection pump, yes ?
Use a thick jumper lead on the battery + and touch it directly on on starter motor terminal to turn it over.
Or would a thinner wire to the starter solenoid + be better/safer ?
Is there something i have missed. Would this enable a safe emergency mode drive out to civilisation ?

IMO... I wouldn't bother, the electrics on those vehicles are sooooo simple (even by Lucas standards). There are plenty more BIGGER things to worry about than that. A well prepared parts/spares kit should have enough bits for you to be able to make something up at the road side if need be.

If you're in the poop.... You just need a 12v supply to the solenoid on the fuel pump, crank the engine & you're off! (even the fuel pump is mechanical)

In the scenario you're talking about, there's a live terminal in the engine bay (just follow the alternator lead) where you could just run a lead with spade connector to enable the fuel pump. Then you just need to either bump start or do much the same to the solenoid on the starter motor.
