    TDi service, oil?

    Hi all

I have just purchased a 98 TDi Disco and was wondering what type of oil and filters are recommended by the majority of TDi owners.

    Cheers Andy.

Every 5000kms oil, every 10,000kms oil and filter. I used to use Castrol RX Super or BP Vanellus. Any good quality oil will suffice with synthetics being the best but more expensive. I used to get 20litre drum of Vannelus from the local distributor for about $70 a drum. I would use Coopers or Crossland imported from UK (do not use Australian Cooper) or genuine oil filters. Karcraft or Landrovers.com can supply them at a decent price.

I bought mine 50,000kms on it a few years ago. Since then I've used Penzoil 15W/40, Valvoline Deisel 15W/40 (can't remember the name) and for the last 5 oil changes, Castrol Super RX. I try and buy it on the times when Super Cheap has a 20% off sale.

I use Coopers (UK) as recommended above. I change the oil and filter at 5,000 intervals but I think on two occasions I didn't change the filter...but the filter never does more than 10,000kms. Crossland air filter. Coopers fuel filter, incase you're interested...these seem to be common at aftermarket LR spares shops.
