I ended up with a Magnetti Marelli 120 alternator (usual fitment for a 3.9 Disco I). No rough running issues and has been on for over two years.

The MY95 Disco has a 100 amp alternator. Is there a 120 amp version from somewhere?

Or is that a model number?

I got mine from my autosparky in Alice Springs when I was still there.

These are the numbers off the sticker on the alternator.

I found links that say that is an AMR2938. This is higher rated due to being for the heated windscreen model?

Same as an AMR4247 which is for later model Disco1 updates but is still 100 amp as per the AMR3107 which was earlier Disco1 updates
(VIN TA163437, also VIN TA501937 onwards for AMR4248).

After talking to some suppliers, I discovered the alternator I mentioned (AMR2938) is for a P38 RR '02 onwards.
    So won't fit up to a 3.9 MY95 Disco.

Not sure if it's of any help but I've got the old alternator from my old '93 D1 200tdi (it had the heated front screen) around here somewhere. It was a troublesome unit so I adapted an XF Falcon Bosch one. I know I'm comparing diesel to V8 but if anyone wants the old MM, thinking maybe the internals will fit the V8 housings, send me a pm, pay the postage and you own it.
    Cheers,
    Anthony.
p.s. The reason I went XF is that it was an easy conversion from Lucas on my old stage 1 V8 and I had a spare laying around. I'm not right up on the V8s but but it might be worth looking at how much the mounting setup changed from model to model. A bit of bush mechanicing might be in order.
