    4lt V8 Disco MY03-Snorkel

    Guys,
what advantages are to be gained bt fitting a snorkel to my V8 beast appart from the obvious wading advantages? The cooler air etc, what does that bring, better economy, better combustion etc? Trying to weigh up the pro's and con's of fitting one against the $600 odd price tag.

Clean air from higher up, as opposed to the incredibly dusty air from the inner left guard.

    Wading - already stated.....

    Looks tough

No power gains to be had though.....

    Good sensible modification

whats the real advantage then? Will it just save me replacing the air filter as often? I like the fact it looks tough though. Do you get any wind noise from it on the passenger side?

    Hi ******
Do you intend doing much beach/sand work???? If so a snorkel is very important.
They suck huge amounts of sand in,I had a new air filter when I went for our easter trip,it was totally clogged with sand when I checked it a week after we got home.
Im going for suspension, snorkel then Drifesafes headlight upgrade.

    Hey mate,
If you are doing any sort of outback work then a snorkel will keep you air filter cleaner longer. And if doing any rivers over wheel height it might just save your motor.

I have one on my MY04 V8 Disco. You can get the snorkel cheapest from a Landrover Dealer. It must be about the only thing that is cheaper from a dealer than anywhere else. You should be able to buy the snorkel for about $360. It is easy to fit yourself or get fitted for about $100.

thanks guys. Yeh I do both sand and dirt driving and I have seen how filthy the cleaner gets after driving in a convoy. You have nearly convinced me! Is the dealer snorkel a Safari snorkel? Any feedback on the wind-noise?
I'd get nervous cutting panels, it may be best rto hand over the $100.........

Dealer snorkel is Safari but 'dual badged' eg, says LR and Safari on it

    Wind noise... Nope, not noticeable.....

    Cheers

    Yep, as Mike said.

There is a bit more noticable wind noise...but it's a 4WD shaped like a brick so it's always noisy.

thanks guys. This product is now obsolete from Land Rover. I managed to find the last one in the country )well so I'm told) at a dealer in Cairns. Problem is now I have to freight it down buy at $370 it's still far cheaper than buying one from anyone else, I've been quoted $520 plus fitting.......
How easy are these to fit? I am being quoted about $160 to get one fitted and I am pretty sure thay should be straight forward enough, apart from the deep breath when cutting a large hole in the front guard. Mind you I have never done this and only guessing........ Is it worth doing yourself?
