Have you ever replaced the injector seals - copper washers & 'O' rings?
With high sump level and poor fuel consumption it seems pretty obvious that you're dropping diesel into the sump.
Sounds like you were lucky that you didn't have a runaway event with the engine.
Roger
It did have a replacement head a while back, but I'm not sure if the seals were done at the time. It would make sense that they would have been, but thats not at all to say that they were.
I think you're right Roger, I think I probably was really lucky it didn't run away!

Hi Simon. Can't help at all with TD5 diagnosis mate. Just a note to say I feel your pain (V8 LR owner ) and I hope it goes well. The Td5 isn't as tender as a V8 and I can't recall one reported on AULRO as grenading.
Cheers
there was a video of a td5 runaway on here some time back, it didn't grenade it just ground to a halt, cooked , I think.
someone more savvy than me might find it and put it up.
Piston broke ? ... (run those words thru a soundex generator ) ..... moving on, do you have an EGT gauge? If yes did you notice the reading at the time of the incident ?
