Not too sure about the wheel issue, but does your D1 have airbags? Could be another issue to watch out for.
Hey folks,
I was thinking of building a new winch bar for my Disco. It is planned to be a nice low profile winch bar with good approach angles etc.
Which got me wondering if i would see trouble about the frontal clearance it would provide - mainly lack of wheel coverage as mentioned in the ADR design rules for FPS?
But how do the XROX bars that are sold as ADR compliant - and the police don't take any notice as they are a mass produced bar - meet the frontal wheel coverage requirements? They basically leave the whole front of the wheel exposed?

You have the right to remain silent. Anything you say will be misquoted, then used against you.

In reality you can get an engineer to certify many surprising things as ADR compliant.
The main concern appeared to be the slope of the loop cannot be too forward as to drive pedestrians downwards, and that there are not any protrusions on the front of the bar like eyelet tow points. ( or fishing rod holders)
When I worked for an importer we had some surprising designs approved by an engineer including one that weighed AFAIR 110KG for an FJ Cruiser which prompted my WA distributor to declare there was no way the front suspension could be modified to take an extra 110KG.
These days airbags to not rely on sensors in the crush cans but a central inertial sensor usually in the centre console. AFAIK this make sit easier to approve many bullbars.

Thanks guys,
I contacted XROX and they sent me a copy of their own statement about their ADR compliance.
Part of which is this:
So if i made my own bar that met this criteria (and all the others - indicator lights, sloped back hoops etc then it should be ok.
However, it may be difficult to make a low profile (high clearance) bar that came down 30 degrees in front of the front wheels though - especially with a 2" lift...
I've been browsing designs etc. I was thinking of a winch 'box' in the middle with only hoops extending out from it - not the usual box sections running all the way along underneath the front.
I have a nice TJM winch bar that has served me well, but as it is a low mount winch bar, the bar hangs fairly low at the front ruining my approach angle as i'm not lifting my Disco any more than 2".

Further reading has me wondering if DIY bars (even if they are ADR compliant) are even allowed. The world these days is crap...
It sounds like every bullbar has to have an ADR plate on it from the manufacturer?
