    Centre mount winch options...

I'm building a Frankenstein series FC tourer and have acquired a Thomas PTO winch. I've been toying with the idea of centre mounting it to pull forwards or rearwards. I don't want to mount it at the front as a FC is very front heavy, I don't need any more weight in front of the front axle. I have heaps of space just in front of the rear axle.

A FC has a C channel subframe above the main chassis which would be perfect to run a cable forwards or rearwards. I've seen configurations where the winch feeds rearwards and then has a pully to then feed to the front. If pulling rearwards you pull a loop in the line and pull at 2:1.

Another option would be mounting the winch drum at 90 degrees and run through a pully to feed forwards or rearwards? I don't know if this would provide enough room for the line to feed on to the drum (essentially the distance between the chassis rails)?

PTO outputs are easy enough. The LT230 has a PTO output or I can use the PTO output on the Isuzu MYY5T gearbox I'm using.

The 101 has a centre mounted winch. How does it work?

There's a series 2A ute running around the Gold Coast on Volvo Portals that has a centre mounted winch.

You can see an example of how it works. It runs off the PTO
