ARB Twin Compressor, issue and relay number

Second time it’s starting playing up.....kinda handy for my bagged rear.

First time to my surprised ARB fixed for free even though it was out of warranty.

This time I thought I’d take a look my self.....it is Mount in a tool box but box does leak a little bit of water and dust and I don’t always open it up to let things dry out.

Hopefully this is the issue, lots of green stuff and corrosion where the relays plug in. Not 100% power getting through and sometimes only one compressor would start.

Today’s job, water proof the tool box.

I'm having a similar issue weeds.

I have mine mounted under the drivers side seat box. The wiring harness is tied up above the transfer case with feed wires running to the starting battery and trigger wire to the switch inside cab.

Lately my compressor has not been turning on. I'd flick the switch and nothing. Then i'd jiggle the wires a bit and presto it would run. So I can now assume I need to get under car and clean up the connections in the wiring harness that sit above the transfer case.

The wiring harness provided by ARB is quite long so I have it all bundled up with cable ties.

There is a product called DeoxIT which is a contact cleaner. With that and the help of a small brush / points file and a pick, It will clean the corrosion right up. Replace any waterlogged relays.
Then maybe consider some dielectric grease. CRC do a good version in a spray can with the pokey-tube.

If you don’t find the issue in the harness than also check the two wires going to the pressure switch. On my twin one popped off without much resistance.

Well up until last week I continued to support the ARB twin…….and say goods things

Well I’ve since this thread stated I’ve purchased a new ARB twin maybe 18 months ago to replace the original, and I improved the environment by water proofing the tool box……

Well it failed to make air on Wednesday morning which meant I had to drag out the bike pump to manage my air bags…….

Soooo I dropped into ARB Friday morning, and I think I was very lucky with the person got to serve me, the brisbane 4WD show had started that day and the guy I got happen to have spent many years fitting ARB products and I think he floated between workshop and front of office. By far the best customer service i had received at an ARB shop.

He said he’d get the boys to bench test it while I waited and would do their best to get it and running.

They confirmed my thoughts on a failed pressure switch, it was full of water and corrosion had set in.

Sooooo they recommended I fit a 110psi pressure switch instead of the 160pis unit that the ARB twin come with as they cause issues and the compressors seem to run better with a 110psi unit

I said fine to the 110psi unit as in only have a locker and bags which was plenty of pressure and don’t need 160psi

1st thing I noticed was the speed the bag would inflate, much slower @110psi starting pressure. Although this wasn’t a deal breaker.

Today was a little more annoying when I happened to have a big tow ball weigh and the need to raise the suspension as high as possible to make loading a low ish skyline onto a car trailer….

good thing the front bumper is only cable tied on…..

at first I thought my shocks had topped out i.e. the billies must of had less travel than the previous shocks….while that might be the case however pressure was my enemy I figured out. I got to around 60 ish PSI and the suspension would go up and more and the compressor wasn’t kicking in……as the pressure had equalized but still slightly higher the the pressure switch setting.

I had to release a bit of pressure from the tank to force the compressor to bring the tank back up to 110psi, than i could raise the to its max…….

Hmm do i get ARB to fit a 160psi pressure switch or leave it, I doubt for our trip I’ll be overly concerned as the main role is to level the car each night to sleep in, in which I always lower a bag to level out

Anyways the young lads were impressed that I could drop to bump stops to hitch up and extend to reduce ramp over angles on the trailer ramps.
