I've been doing my own tyres for years, at home and on trips. This was at the Montecollina Bore on the Strzelecki Track. At least there was some shade. Carrying 2 spares enables you to do repairs at a place, time and under the conditions you choose

None of the jack under the vehicle, drive over methods ever worked for me and just tyre levers & rubber hammer is hard work.
I bought a R&R bead breaker years ago from the bloke in Yunta (SA) who made them. He had a kit with longer foot that suited LR (Disco II) and I have used it with great success. Wasn't cheap though, but what price do you put on a bit of kit when up the Strzelecki or Oodna tracks.
If you are handy and have a bit of equipment Bundalene made one that looked the goods, discussed in this thread Mag wheel bead breaker
cheers, Pen
I’ve done them and old series tyres can be a real struggle when the tyres been on for a decade or two. I have 2 spares on the 101 now and a tyre place can do them - I’m too old for that **** now. [emoji56]
I got a flat that destroyed the tyre on the trailer I was towing. I'd just pulled into norseman WA, and at the only place open on Sat afternoon, bloke was going to charge me $50 to change the tyre over onto the rim. I uttered an expletive and proceeded to remove damaged tyre by popping the bead with the front tyre on the car, used 2 screwdrivers to remove tyre, all with him and a mate watching me, fitted another tyre with a steel hammer. I then asked if he was going to charge me to pump it up. He said "after that effort, I'll pump it up for free". I thanked him, washed my hands after refitting the wheel to the trailer, and drove off with Adelaide the destination. I'm not useless. My father did teach me some stuff.
What we really need are split rims for our Discoveries!!!!!!
I've used a highlift for years works great
I bought an R&R bead breaker years ago, maybe 20 years and had completely forgotten I had it until rooting around in the shed recently! I must be lucky with all the dirt we've driven and only having punctures fixed with plugs.
