use the EGR cooler to take the exhaust of a diesel heater, fit a diesel heater, route it so you have an inch feed off of the hot air into the engine bay and point that at the startermotor/intake area.

route the exhuast so it passes vertically downwards through the relocated vertically mounted EGR cooler and then plumb the egr cooler back into its normal coolant loop positions.

of course the engine itself will not be the issue with starting in those temps, its well glow plugged and is good at keeping compression, the issue is going to be getting the fuel galleries pressurised from the electric pump in the tank down the back...

    to solve that issue.....

a small facet pump and then drill and fit 2 pipes into the tank, add another heat exchanger braise a length of pipe onto the exhuast of the diesel heater. A very smart cookie would use these 2 hoses to fill as small tank in the engine bay for the diesel heater to draw from and set the pump up to run whenever the diesel heater is running
Strewth! You are wasted here, Dave. You should be working at LR, telling the engineers what to do...

Even Roget's is owned by bean counters. " He who pays the piper calls the tune."

Problem is, the customer pays the piper..

if we got rid of the accounteneers, the middle managers and all the other twaftwaffling freeloader self justified price enhancing latte quaffers then just let the guys who like designing good things design good things and let the people who like building good things build good things it would be cheaper and actually better than some of the sphincter berry stuff thats out there now...

    For example,

Just because you run out of freelander badges does not mean you get to use whatever you have left over to name your latest softroader.

That, I'd bet, was a decision born of a horrid lust tryst betwixt some testicularly shrivelled accouteneer and a spineless PR jellyfish.

But Dave, the people you speak of RUN the companies, and are very firmly entrenched. Eventually, they will go the way of all parasites, they will kill their host, but then they will simply find another host.

They'll dress it up in a pretty frock and call it an Evoque.

That I disagree with. The customer will pay, but will not get what they wanted or asked for. The customer has spent nearly all of his/her life being told what to want due to marketing. It's the only way I can explain MacDonalds. Or Toyota. Thus the customer 'believes' they are getting what they want, but what they "want" has been spoon fed to them from all the way back to Sesame Street. It's called freedom of choice. And the piper chooses.

American, you're pro'ly right, he'll have to try from England I think Revco used to make them.

Actually Revco do the electric fans Kenlowe do/did the engine heaters, but I'm not sure if they went out of business, the other co's of this type seem to be Cars - Calix and DEFA Find your engine heater • DEFA

    Cheap Block heater

I had a friend in the USA who put a hand held lead lamp with a 100W incandescant bulb under the sump in her raw water cooled boat engine compartment in winter and it worked really well. Worth a try and dirt cheap. Providing there are no draughts ie you keep your vehicle in a garage, most of the heat should radiate upwards and the bonnet should keep most of the heat in. Worth a try!

    Webasto Thermo Top

I have a Webasto Thermo Top - TTV diesel fuel burning heater that was installed in my TD5 110 - would fit in any vehicle / engine, but I can sell with all the bits to fit TD5. I only removed it as don't live in alpine area anymore and I installed a catch-can in its place.

It's originally out of a VW I believe - It was running using W-Bus (Webastos own language - or can use CAN-Bus - obv not useful in TD5) it has its own separate wiring harness to operate - only connection to vehicle harness was to battery. It has a LED screen controller with timer, so could program it to fire-up at set times. It has its own electric pump to circulate coolant - it heats the heater loop of coolant, turns on the heater (if you connect the fan) to heat the vehicles interior defrosting windows, door locks etc
It did have a small fuel can under passenger seat that would last forever as very economical. they have built-in safety power down if vehicle battery goes below set voltage so doesn't drain battery preventing engine start.

I also purchased a T91 remote but never fitted the receiver - that is spec'd to have ~KM range clear line of site to turn heater on or off

Its all here and I could run it up to ensure all serviceable if your interested in it
It is physically in NZ, happy to post to West Island - or the inter island passenger traffic is sure to pickup again soon
