    Winch relay

I have a Dominater winch. The relays click, no winch movement. Any ideas on what relays to buy? Where to get them from?

No movement in either direction? I'd check the winch motor and it's connections before I'd go chasing relays. Might just be a loose connection, either battery or earth.

theres 4 relays, of which at least 2 one from each pairing must fail before the motor wont run in either direction, not unheard of,
theres some times a primary isolator which if it fails open means no power
theres a set of comutator brushes hich if one lifts you get nada.

The motor does work, goes in fine, would not go out, just clicked, then after a bit of on off on off it went/ran out. It is not reliable enough for me. I have been at Toolangi and it would just click when I wanted to winch my self out.

Thats a relay, easy to check.

grab a handful of globes on clips clip them across the relay contacts and trigger them, the ones that have the lights go out are ok.

When is the last time that you serviced/cleaned your winch?

I have a DominatorX 12,000lb winch on my D2a that has been there for about 5 years and it hasn't missed a beat But I have serviced/cleaned it every year or so since I installed it and I also make a point of running out the rope and winding it back on at regular intervals if I haven't used it in anger.

Regardless of Brand All winches will be more reliable with regular servicing (same as anything else) So try giving your Dominator a service/clean/regrease and see If this resolves your problem.
If it is a relay problem then get in touch with the mob at 4WDsupercentre and ask them about a replacement relay

Today I take it out and clean and grease. And rotate the end so that the clutch is upwards. About 2 years since it went in. But it doesn't get wet! (much!)

Hmmm, gears all good, motor looked good. connected it up and smoke came out of the relay, maybe I connected it wrong. Any ideas on which cable goes where?
