    H4 globe choices

Kinda dumb question, but i'm way behind the times on lighting tech.

Came up tonight, moons ago I fitted HID lamps to my D2. Haven't used them for more than 4 years, and now I see they are really quite hopeless, but look good to others...(?) I also fitted LEDs to the D1, and the Ford...ditto.

I fitted expensive globes to the ford previously and they lasted less than 6 weeks. Possibly they got too hot in the enclosures, i don't know.

There are some lighting gurus here. What recommendations do you have?

Over the years I've chewed through a lot of H4's and I've kinda settled on Phillips. They seem to give me the best consistency and life.

Ditto, and I mostly used to use Osram.
Have had Phillips Plus 130's (or are they 150's?) In the car for 3.5 years now and for 60w Halogen globes are pretty good, possibly as good as the 100w H4's I used to use in the Deefer.

If you're sticking with conventional globes here's another vote for Phillips.

The next choice is where to buy them from. I've found an auto electrical supplier locally who is way cheaper than most auto shops.
Purchased 2off H7 globes yesterday for $20 (cash, no receipt). Just looked on Supercrap and they seem to more than double what I paid !

Where's that, Colin? Local stores pricing is ludicrous. I'm not far from Narre.

Had HID's for a few years while doing country runs at night. They were fine till one globe blew.

Went back to H4's, maybe Philips, which have been fine.

The most important thing was fitting Wipac lens / reflectors at the same time. They made a big difference.

All operated through bigger wire and relays.
