welding on a Td5 Defender - correct procedure for electronics

Has anyone done any welding on their Td5 Defender. If so, what’s the correct procedure?
My fabricator wants to weld on my rear diff housing in situ, obviously putting earth for the welder very close to where he welds.
He was planning to disconnect the battery and I was thinking of unplugging the ECU from the look as well.

However, I am worried that this can this cause issues with the immobiliser.
    Thoughts?

After disconnecting the positive lead from the battery, connect it to a good earth so as to provide the best possible earth path from ecus - don't just leave the positive lead dangling. To avoid possible shorting to ground with the spanner while disconnecting the positive lead from the battery, it's good practice to disconnect the earth lead first.

Why not completely unplug the ECU. It only takes a minute.

That's the plan now anyway. The only thing that can't easily be disconnected is the AS10 security module. I hope that this isn't a problem.
