    Beg, borrow....

Is there a fb community around you? Put it out there. Mate's better half has a Subaru Forester, manual. She can no longer drive a manual, so she put out into the fb community near her that she wanted a similar car, only auto. To buy, you understand. Some local woman GAVE her one. With RWC!

    Can't hurt to ask.

If you were in Melb, I could lend you mine.

I'm 99.999% sure the flywheel locking pin will not hold a properly tightened HB bolt .. I only know this from experience

I originally made a angled bar holding two opposing bolts on the HB.
Two are probably enough, but anyhow the flat bar snapped at the tail end of the 90° section of tightening the HB bolt .. taking out the flywheel locking pin too.

If your welding is better than my terrible skills .. maybe you could make up a better piece than I did.

To get it off is much easier as you could use the starter method, disconnect the injector pump solenoid, have socket and breaker bar close to chassis and a quick snap of the starter will see the bolt off easy.

The issue is getting it back on using the recommended specs tho.

FWIW, the tool I bought off ebay is supposed to also do some modern-ish Jags too(can't recall which) .. cost me a tad over $100 off ebay.

I could measure it up for 'ya if you need dimensions.

'Ya think?? Didn't work here. First thing I tried as I'd done it many times before on other things. And you can't use heat either.

I made one of those too but I can't find the photo and the actual tool lives in a container about 8 hours from Brisbane. 300tdi crank case locking tool

It's the same thing, surely? How else do you lock it?

    I made these

AFAIK there is no other way to non destructively lock a 300 TDi. Happy to be proved wrong.

    Hello RAR110

If you are describing taking off a crank damper bolt or locking the motor you may need one of the tools shown in the photo. There are some websites that describe fabricating your own version of the "anti-rotation" tool.

    Kind regards

    This.
I made one, just didn't bother thinning the handle.
    It works really well.

if youve got the spring loaded pin or a chineesium one, yes, one made of actual metal, not so much...

    that said.

pull a glow plug out, get #2 or #3 on the way up on compression and feed nylon 3mm cord down into the cylinder then wind it up onto the head. to hold it for doing up, take it past tdc onto the power stroke and go backwards.

a free word of warning.... (or several)

    1. tie the ignition key to the handle before you install this (go on, ask why and then go "ohhhhhh, never mind" before I can reply)
    2. drop the 4 bolts that come with it into the drain, go buy yourself some grade 8 preferably 10 replacements (yes, this is part of the answer to 1)
    3. buy or make a thread chaser for the holes in the harmonic balancer
    4. 2 bolts wont cut it, 3 will
    5. clean the face of the tool and the harmonic balancer before you put it on
    6. flat washers under the head of the bolts and antisieze on the bolts before you start
    7. no, its not a puller do not try to use this tool as an improvised replacement for the proper pulling tool (this may tie into points 2-4)
