You might want to have a squiz at the wrecking section in 'for sale' atm.

I thought the D1 & 110 300tdi engine layout was quite different.
the core of the engine is the same for all tdi300 (and lots of bits of the tdi200)
Grab the rave and have at it.
but essentially.
rip it out, pull it apart, send the head, block, crank, pistons and rods for machining, hand over your credit card ten put it back in the reverse order with new gaskets and seals, throw it back in.
Done.
takes a week if you have a hot line on a good machinist and say $4.5k
Thanks Dave. I’m not sure $4.5k is possible or viable. Maybe I should look at a 4B motor/LT95 combo.
sure at $8k+ + engineering.
but if you take your time it an be done Diy for around $2k
Yeah that’s what is was thinking. 4BE1 with LT95 incl bell housing.
Well after 3 plus days, here is where we are up to. Motor is separated except for one nut on the bell housing at the 12 o’clock position. The Haynes manual I’m using describes this nut as being quite difficult to access. Well that’s an under statement.

Any suggestions by the brains trust.
I’ve tried from underneath with a socket with extensions, but can’t get enough space to swing an extended bar to move it. Anyway the socket keeps slipping off the nut.
I’ve tried bending a ring spanner to access from the top.
My next and last option I can think of is welding some shaped bar to a socket and trying that from the top.
greetings. having done a few of these in the past , i'm fairly sure i used a jack and timber block to raise back of transmission ( tilt everything forward ). i also recall one time removing engine mounts to get more room. hope it helps. pete :-)
