Tyres - the cheaper options

I'm very happy with the motorway remold MTs. Great off & on road.
Can't beat the price, 12 months ago, $93 plus fitting:eek: :D .

One of my mates has Sava A/T tyres in 16 inch on his LandBruiser traytop. Quite an agressive pattern, but still bitumen friendly. They were a pretty cheap tyre. They have been so impressive thus far that a set is going on another friends Maverick lwb, and I am considering them for the Rangie.:cool:

just put a set of All Country Merits 245 70r 16 (made in some backstreet in China) on my Disco, done about 8000 K's. They are all terrain, but not a very aggressive pattern, screwed tyre dealer (Brisbane Mobile tyres 32606060) down to $130 each, they seem to be excellent value for money, and i'm a cheapskate!

I got a set of these (Maxxis Buckshot Mudders) 245/75/16s from Discoute for $150:D each. Doesn't have any more though, and apparently the distributor has changed and they now charge that for wholesale!! Cheapest after that was $208 or $220 for them.

They are a good tyre, but I wouldn't call them cheap anymore:(

Discowhite had the Mongrels remoulds on his D1 they were great, pretty good tyre and cheap as chips too they are a bead to bead remould.

I was talking to a tyre place the other day about some play tyres plus rims. The guy told me if I was prepared to go down to 15" a whole new world of cheap possibilities opens up he showed me a set of khumo's for $120.00 each. Fairly aggressive pattern on m/t

15" is a whole new world of play things, thats for sure...

I am running a Nankang tyre called a 'Mudstar' on my Defender. Corey the previous owner said he got them for approx $170 a piece. They have a tread pattern pretty well equal to a BFG mud terrain.

Somone mentioned that they are a softer compound tyre and that I might only get half the 'normal' mileage out of them. Road noise is not too bad and they really stick to the road in the wet - they are not recaps.

Also remember seeing GT radials advertised somewhere - they also looked good - just google them and u should find a site with sizes and tread types.
