I would definitely use MIG for that even if I had TIG available, and I'd suggest take the door off unless you're very confident doing a vertical run on thin material. With the door off, a downhand run will turn out much easier/better.

The area beside the weld will be brittle if you just mig weld it ..... and it will crack again beside the weld. Does it need to be able to flex is this spot ? If so, I'd glue a patch to the back of it using a urethane sealer/adhesive. That way it can still flex slightly over the area, without further cracking. I'd re-enforce that welded up crack for sure either way :D
